Getting Started
Don't set your expectations too high for the first day or two. I have dealt with plenty of kids who tell me that they know how to snowboard from video games and actually can't even pick themselves up off the ground to get started. They get frustrated and quit. Pace yourself, drink lots of fluids, take breaks. If possible, commit to snowboarding for at least three days and take a lesson each day. Things will start feeling more comfortable. Once you are comfortable with standing upright and controlling speed, it becomes easier to learn things like turning.

No doubt you will see those people who get on the board, hunker down, lean back, go in a straight line, and crash into something or someone. This is good for no one. Learning turning and stopping comes before speed.
