.:Tips and Tricks
This page is to provide some general information on learning to snowboard. It was compiled and edited by a professional snowboard instructor to help with learning, east coast snow conditions, etc. However, NOTHING will beat taking a personal lesson from a professional snowboard instructor.

Board Setup
Get your board set up and rented the evening before. Practice using the bindings and if possible take the board to your basement on the carpet, make sure furniture and other objects are out of the way. Practice transitioning your weight from your toes to heels with your knees flexed. Oh yeah, most resorts require you to have a leash, so make sure to have one so you can ride.

The amount of beginners who cannot operate their bindings is astounding. This keeps them from being able to use the lift, and they are stuck on the bunny hill with their mom following them around to work the bindings. I personally like strap bindings for beginners because ice gets into the step ins which gives beginners a lot of trouble. Unfortunately, most rentals seem to be step in because there are less parts to maintain. Ask the shop if they have any strap in bindings (unless this means you will get an inferior board).
